About Maarten
Thomas works on larger scale transitions, like the plant-based protein transition and circular economy. He is also involved in projects on international value chains like farmer climate resilience and access to nutrition. Thomas is driven to understand and address the root causes of unsustainable phenomena in society. He pursues impact and is trying to find ways to drive systemic change.

Experience
• Thomas has been one of the drivers behind the TransMission Approach that launched in 2023 and has worked very closely with the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure & Water to incorporate the TransMission approach in their organization.
• Before joining NewForesight, Thomas worked at Friends of the Earth Netherlands researching climate and energy policy and was part of the team working on the famous lawsuit against Shell to lower their CO2 emissions with 45% by 2030.
• He also worked at the Centre for Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI).
Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Governance, Economics, and Development (Cum Laude) and a Master’s in Development Economics.
