Thomas is highly driven to make an impact on environmental and social sustainability. Using his interdisciplinary academic background, he combines a data-driven approach with systems thinking to tackle complex sustainability challenges and drive market transformation.
Thomas is intrigued by the persistence of unsustainable phenomena in society and he is motivated to understand and tackle the underlying drivers of these issues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Governance, Economics, and Development from Leiden University College The Hague (Cum Laude), where he developed a broad understanding of global challenges ranging from poverty to climate change. In order to deepen his knowledge on sustainable development and learn about ways to measure the impact of efforts to tackle these challenges, he subsequently pursued a master’s degree in Development Economics at Wageningen University.
Prior to joining NewForesight, Thomas worked at Friends of the Earth Netherlands where he researched climate and energy policy, sustainable development, and the role of fossil fuel companies in the energy transition. He also worked at the Centre for Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI), where he helped to develop several new private sector development projects in agricultural and tourism value chains and worked with the M&E team on data collection and impact measurement.
