Indonesia is the biggest cocoa producing country outside of Africa. Cocoa productivity has been declining. Entrepreneurial farmers are switching to more lucrative crops. Without proper action, Indonesia might miss out on supplying the forecasted surge in global demand that is expected over the next years.
Double the productivity of Indonesian cocoa farmers, and bring down the average age of Indonesian cocoa farmers. These targets require an action roadmap in order to become a reality. NewForesight was asked to facilitate a stakeholder consultation process for that purpose.
All major stakeholders involved in producing and marketing Indonesian cocoa are united under the Cocoa Sustainability Partnership (CSP). With the help of NewForesight the CSP developed a broadly supported sector action plan. The objective is to make cocoa an attractive, sustainable crop for the future.
